Cosco books three newcastlemaxes at Beihai Shipbuilding

Cosco Shipping Bulk, the bulk shipping arm of China Cosco Shipping, has ordered three 210,000 dwt newcastlemaxes at CSIC-affiliated Beihai Shipbuilding Industry.

The new vessels will be used for bauxite transportation from Guinea’s Boffa bauxite project to China under a deal with Aluminum Corporation of China (Chalco).

The order follows the confirmation of ten newcastlemaxes at Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry earlier this week, and Splash understands that the total number of vessels ordered for the project could be as many as 25-30 vessels.

Shipbroking sources tell Splash that Cosco is also on the verge of ordering another three newcastlemaxes at CSIC’s Tianjin Xingang Shipbuilding Heavy Industry.
