Authorities halt Vale’s operations at Brucutu

Brazilian miner Vale has informed that the Minas Gerais Court of Justice had ruled the company to suspend operations at its Brucutu iron ore mining complex, reversing a ruling by the Lower Public Treasury Court of Belo Horizonte which allowed it to resume activities at the mine in March.

Vale has been under strict scrutiny following a dam collapse incident in January which killed hundreds of people.

In March, a court decided to suspend Vale’s operations at Timbopeba Mine and the company was also banned from using the Doutor dam as well as operating other structures of the mine, shortly after authorities ordered the temporary shutdown of its Guaiba Island Terminal.

Vale expects its 2019 sales of iron ore and pellets to be at the low to mid-end of its previous guidance of 307m to 332m tonnes.
