CSC RoRo Logistics orders two car carriers at China Merchants Heavy

CSC RoRo Logistics, the car shipping subsidiary of China Merchants, has placed an order at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) for the construction of two 3,800 ceu car carriers.

The price for each vessel is RMB271m ($39.2m). The vessels will be deployed on the Guangzhou- Shanghai- Tianjin shipping route upon delivery in 2021.

In February, China Merchant Energy Shipping announced a plan to raise around $610m, part of which will be used to fund the construction of two roro ships, four VLCCs and two VLOCs.

China Merchants said the two new roro vessels will optimize the company’s roro vessel fleet as it will send several ageing vessels in the fleet to scrap.

CSC RoRo Logistics currently operates a fleet of 25 car carriers with total capacity of more than 30,000 ceu.
