UN report calls for collaboration to clean the world’s oceans

The first event on Tuesday morning at the Nor-Shipping exhibition saw Norwegian prime minster Erna Solberg invited to the launch of the United Nations Global Compact Report ‘Global Goals, Ocean Opportunities’ a 48-page urgent call for ocean action. Some 300 companies, organisations, academic institutions and NGOs were involved in writing the report.

Solberg, who is from Bergen, one of Norway’s most important maritime cities, focused on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 14 which deals with the ocean and works to prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution.

Solberg called for cooperation from all stakeholders to help clean the oceans, one of the key themes at this year’s Nor-Shipping.
