Diana Shipping fixes capesize pair

Greek dry bulk owner Diana Shipping has fixed two of its capesizes, one to Peter Weernink’s new venture Singapore Marine and the other to Germany’s Oldendorff Carriers.

The 2010-built cape New York has been fixed to Singapore Marine for a period of 17-19 months. The contract, which commenced last week, is at a rate of $15,500 per day. The rate is only slightly below the $16,000 per day previously being paid by DHL Project and Chartering in Hong Kong.

Splash understand the New York charter grows Singapore Marine’s operating fleet to 13 vessels, having debuted in April with backing from the likes of John Fredriksen’s Golden Ocean, the Martinos family (Thenamaris), John Michael Radziwill (CMTC and Goodbulk), and the Veniamis family (Golden Union).

Separately, Oldendorff has taken 2007-built capesize Boston on charter for a period through to between April 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021. The charter also commenced last week, and is at a rate of $15,300 per day which is significantly lower than the $17,000 per day previously being paid by EGPN.

Diana Shipping says the two deals will generate around $17.91m based on the minimum time charter periods for both vessels.
