Dutch heavy lift shipping specialist Jumbo Maritime has secured a contract for the transportation and installation of wind turbine generator substructures at the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm in Taiwan.
The contract was awarded by Yunneng Windpower and the scope comprises the transportation of 40 monopiles, 120 monopile sections and 40 transition pieces (TPs), as well as the offshore installation of 80 TPs.
“This is a proud moment for Jumbo. The Yunlin project is the largest single contract we have been awarded in our 50-year history, and it is particularly special as it allows us to combine the strengths of both our Shipping and Offshore divisions. Our specialised teams, together with our partners, will provide a unique integrated T&I solution – from quayside to seabed – for Yunneng,” said Michael Kahn, managing director of Jumbo.
Jumbo will use their K-class and J-class vessels as well as other third-party HLVs and deck carriers for shipping and installation works.
The 640 MW Yunlin offshore wind project is the first large multi megawatt offshore wind project in Taiwan. It will be developed 8km off the Taiwanese west coast and will consist of 80 turbines of the 8MW class provided by Siemens Gamesa.
