Global Ship Lease seals news charters with Maersk and MSC

London-based containership owner Global Ship Lease has announced two new charters for two of its vessels, one with Maersk and one with MSC.

MSC is taking 2005-built 2,824 teu boxship GSL Valerie for a period of 12 months at a rate of $9,000 per day.

Maersk has chartered the 2006-built 5,095 teu Orca I for a period of 12-14 months. The charter is at a rate of $9,000 per day for the first year, rising to $10,000 per day thereafter.

Both charters will commence this month.

Ian Webber, chief executive officer of Global Ship Lease, commented: “We’re pleased to have secured these new charters with top-tier counterparties. Our ability to consistently achieve full fleet employment with our diversified customer base at EBITDA positive levels supports our continuing efforts to unlock additional shareholder value in the high-quality GSL fleet and commercial platform.”
