Chinese river containership Yu Hang 18 and 46,500 dwt handymax bulker Odigitria were involved in an accident near Zhenjiang on Saturday.
were involved in an accident near Zhenjiang on Saturday.The incident happened when Yu Hang 18 was carrying 160 containers from Nantong to Nanjing, and lost control in harsh weather hitting the Odigitria which was berthed at a port terminal of a local power plant.
Seven empty containers onboard Yu Hang 18 fell into the water after the accident, while Odigitria suffered damage on its portside. No injuries were reported from the incident.
The local maritime safety authorities have implemented traffic control in the nearby waterways after the incident, and sent a team to salvage the containers.
Yu Hang 18 is operated by Nanjing Yuhang Container Shipping and Odigitria is owned by Greek owner Anbros Maritime.
