Clarkson Research has identified Nissen Kaiun as the mystery owner to have ordered ten 42,000 dwt log-fitted handymax bulkers, split between Tsuneishi Cebu and Tsuneishi Zhoushan.
At the end of June Tsuneishi Shipbuilding announced it had won a 10-ship debut order for its new TESS42 handymax design, an update to its popular TESS38 series. The shipbuilder declined to reveal the identity of the owner at the time.
In its latest weekly report Clarkson Research states the SOx scrubber fitted units are due for delivery from 2021. No price has been revealed. Nissen Kaiun is in the midst of a major fleet rejuvenation programme.
Like its predeccessor, the TESS42 is a versatile vessel, equipped with four deck cranes, wide-opening hatch covers, and semi-box-type cargo holds suitable for transporting steel products. Tsuneishi claims the news design reduces fuel consumption per ton mile by approximately 4% or more at the same draft and same vessel speed of the TESS38.
The TESS (Tsuneishi Economical Standard Ship) series dates back to 1984 with the TESS40.
