A dramatic ship-to-ship transfer operation is set to continue today in the wintry waters of southern Chile to rescue around 200 cattle in trucks on a roro vessel that grounded and listed last week after the ship’s master hanged himself.
The first cattle were taken off the Coyhaique roro yesterday after the navy had stabilised the ship and moved it to a more sheltered location. A series of smaller vessels are coming alongside the ship and the cattle are slowly being moved to a nearby port. Nevertheless, around 40 of the 244 cattle have perished so far.

The accident happened in a remote, beautiful part of the South American nation and there has been some reports of oil pollution although a boom has been put around the ship.
