The Port of Oakland announced today that its executive director Chris Lytle will retire on July 19, concluding his sixth year at the helm at the port.
Lytle, 73, who previously ran the Port of Long Beach and has worked in trade and transportation for 53 years, will remain as a consultant to the port through to the end of the year.
Danny Wan, attorney of Port of Oakland, will fill in as acting executive director pending a search for Lytle’s successor.
“Chris Lytle is one of the best-known and most respected executives in the industry and it has been our good fortune to have him as our leader,” said board of port commissioners president Ces Butner. “Our priority now is finding an able successor,” he added.
Lytle will assist the port in its search for a new executive director, while he would also be asked to facilitate meetings with customers and the acting executive director, as well as meet overseas with key clients.
The Port of Oakland oversees the Oakland Seaport, Oakland International Airport, and nearly 20 miles of waterfront.
