Scorpio orders scrubbers for 23 more ships

Emanuele Lauro’s Scorpio Group has ordered an additional 23 scrubbers from Pacific Green technologies for bulker and tankers it owns or manages in 2020 at a combined cost of $33.3m.

The orders include 14 systems for Scorpio Tankers and 9 systems for Scorpio Bulkers, on top of 52 systems and 28 systems already ordered by the two Scorpio subsidiaries respectively.

“This is a further vote of confidence in Pacific Green’s Technologies and our ability to build and marine scrubbers on time and on budget. Scorpio Tankers has invested in the latest generation of fuel-efficient vessels and the hybrid-ready ENVI-Marine™ system will give the company the return-on-investment and flexibility it needs to face the complexities of IMO 2020,” said Scott Poulter, executive director of Pacific Green Technologies.

In October last year, Scorpio entered into letters of intent with suppliers, engineering firms and ship repair facilities to cover the purchase and installation of scrubbers on 75 tankers and 56 bulkers.
