Samos Steamship snaps up Nissen Kaiun capesize for $26.2m

Greek owner Samos Steamship has acquired 2011-built capesize bulker Global Mercator according to brokers.

The Athens-based owner, which has a history dating back over 140 years, has shelled out $26.2m for the Japanese-built (Universal) vessel, reports Seasure Shipbroking and Advanced Shipping & Trading.

The sale price is well under than the fair market value of $27.5m placed on the bulker by VesselsValue, whose data shows it to be by far the youngest cape to change hands this year.

Samos Steamship has a fleet of 29 vessels on the water, made up of 13 bulkers and 16 tankers, and the capesize purchase marks its first incoming dry bulk deal in over two years.
