Sovcomflot orders LNG-fuelled product tankers

Sovcomflot’s board of directors has heeded the will of the government and placed orders for three high tech product tankers on home soil. The three LNG-fuelled ships will be built at Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex and will then go on a 20-year charter to compatriot Novatek.

Sergey Frank, president and CEO of Sovcomflot, commented: “The introduction of green technologies for energy shipping is one of the priorities provided for by the development strategy of our company for the period up to 2025.”

Sovcomflot already operates a series of the world’s first aframax-class tankers to use LNG fuel.

The Sovcomflot fleet today stands at 146 vessels with a total deadweight of 12.8m tonnes.
