Several Chinese central government authorities led by Ministry of Transport have released a guideline to promote the development of the port industry in the country, outlining major tasks and targets.
By 2025, China aims to achieve breakthroughs in green, smart and safe development of major ports, and the country plans to further develop major ports to world-class levels by 2035 and form several world-class port clusters by 2050.
The guideline listed 19 major tasks including boosting service capacities, promoting low-carbon energy consumption, speeding up intelligent logistics and optimising the business environment. It also encourages private capital to set up port funds to support the development of the industry.
China has been pushing forward consolidations in the port industry. Several provinces including Liaoning, Jiangsu, Zhejiang have finished the regional integration of port assets.
Official data shows Chinese ports completed a total cargo throughput of 10.3bn tons in the first three quarters of this year, up 5.2 percent year-on-year.
