Delfin signs deal to supply LNG to Lithuania

Dallas: Delfin LNG has signed a preliminary agreement with Lithuanian natural gas supplier LITGAS whereby the Dallas-based Delfin would supply liquefied natural gas to the Baltic nation.

Under the deal, a memorandum of understanding, LITGAS would contract processing capacity at the Delfin LNG deepwater port in the Gulf of Mexico. That is where Delfin plans, pending US government approval, to build the first floating deepwater liquefaction project in the US, off the coast of Louisiana.

As envisaged, this facility, which could be operational by 2019, would have four floating LNG (FLNG) vessels with an initial export capacity of 8 million metric tonnes per year.

Lithuania, like other states bordering Russia, has been looking to lessen its dependence on gas imports from its big neighbour and signed a deal last year with Texas-based Cheniere Energy.

LITGAS is a subsidiary of Lithuania’s state-controlled Lietuvos Energija energy company group.
