Glasgow: Norwegian general cargo vessel Fri Sea (3,676dwt, built 2001) ran aground yesterday after it was caught in a squall of wind trying to dock at Corpach, near Fort William in the Scottish Highlands.
According to the Maritime and Coastgard Agency, the seven crew members have remained onboard the ship and report no injuries or pollution from the accident. The agency said in a statement: ” The secretary of state’s representative for maritime salvage and intervention is aware and is monitoring the situation.”
The vessel, owned by Kopervik Ship Management based in Kopervik, Norway was due to collect a load of timber when the accident occurred.
Attempts will be made to refloat the vessel today.
