GSL adds 8,063 TEU container ship to its fleet

New York: Global Ship Lease (GSL) announced on Wednesday that it had taken delivery of an 8,063 TEU 2004-built container ship, the OOCL Qingdao (105,407 dwt).

On delivery the vessel began a time charter to Orient Overseas Container Line (UK), which is an affiliate of the seller. The lease time for the OOCL Qingdao is between 36 and 39 months at $34,500 a day.

New York-listed GSL is a container ship charter owner which is incorporated in the Marshall Islands with offices in London. This acquisition means GSL’s fleet has grown to 19 ships with a total capacity of 82,475 TEU.

GSL’s CEO Ian Webber said: “Delivery of this vessel marks another important step for Global Ship Lease, expanding our annual EBITDA by $9.4 million and increasing our contracted revenue stream by between $37.7 and $40.9 million, while strengthening our existing relationship with a world-class liner company in OOCL.”
