Rosneft cancels Northern Offshore jackup contract

Houston: Oslo-listed Northern Offshore has said that North Atlantic Drilling has received notice of cancellation from Rosneft Oil Company for jackup rig Energy Endeavor. The rig was contracted for two and half years to operate in the Russian Arctic, commencing in the coming summer drilling season.

The cancellation comes less than two weeks after Rosneft cancelled a contract for North Atlantic Drilling drillship West Navigator, which was signed together with the Energy Endeavor as part of group of six contracts in July 2014.

President and ceo Gary Casswell commented, “While not unexpected, we are disappointed by this development but will nevertheless continue to pursue future opportunities in this region by leveraging our previous experience drilling in the Russian Arctic.”
