Angelicoussis buys three capesizes from Scorpio Bulkers

London: Scorpio Bulkers has resold its newbuilding contracts for three capesize vessels for $44m apiece to Angelicoussis-led Anangel Maritime, shipbrokers have confirmed.

The three 180,000-dwt vessels are the SBI Presidente (due for delivery in 2016), the SBI Churchill and the SBI Perfecto (both for delivery this year).

The SBI Churchill is currently under construction at South Korea’s Sungdong yard, while the others are being built at Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries in Romania.

Including these acquisitions, the dry bulk arm of the Angelicoussis Shipping Group now operates a fleet of 47 bulk carriers, most of which are capes plus seven post-panamax bulk carriers.

The last time Athens-based Anangel Maritime bought a cape was in June 2009, when it bought the Anangel Argonaut (177,800 dwt, built 2009) for $63.5m, according to data from VesselsValue.com.
