China Shipping tanker collides with bulker at Shanghai Port

Shanghai: Oil tanker Bai Chi (41,983dwt, built 2007), operated by China Shipping Group’s oil shipping arm China Shipping Tanker, collided with bulker Jiang Xia Xiang, operated by Huayuan Shipping, when it was berthing at Shanghai’s Waigaoqiao Port on Friday.

The incident led to the sinking of Jiang Xia Xiang, which was carrying about 7500 tons of rock from Anqing to Ningbo, while Bai Chi suffered only minor damage at the bow.

Shanghai Maritime Authority sent a team a rescue and all 16 crew members onboard Jiang Xia Xiang were rescued while Bai Chi berthed at Waigaoqiao port safely.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
