Officials from the Panama Canal Authority and its main contractor met urgently over the weekend to discuss a crack that has emerged on one of the new giant locks put in place for the waterway’s much anticipated expansion. The crack (see video below) emerged on one of the sills on the Cocoli Locks at the Pacific end of the canal. The water filling process of these locks – expected to take 90 days – started on June 22.
The expanded canal is set to open in April next year.
Separately, following significant rainfall in the country the Panama Canal Authority has said further draft restrictions from the middle of next month have been postponed.
Well I thought it will be minor one but in video, it appears that is a serious constructional flaw.
