Vroon Offshore Services has announced that it will lay up twelve offshore support vessels as a result of the ongoing slump in offshore oil and gas activities.
The lay ups will commence during the fourth quarter of 2015 onwards, made up of five platform supply vessels and seven emergency response and rescue vessels, all going into long-term lay up. Vroom also said a number of older emergency response and rescue vessels will be sold off for recycling purposes.
Vroon stated: “We deeply regret the corresponding reduction in on-board positions and the consequences this has for our colleagues.”
The company said that rationalisation of the operational fleet and cost structure started earlier this year and will remain a priority going forward due to current market conditions, which have created low vessel-utilisation levels.
