Norway’s DeepOcean has been awarded a contract by Dong Energy for installation and trenching works for the Walney Extension offshore wind project in the Irish Sea.
The project scope includes route engineering as well as the installation and trenching of a total of 136km offshore export cables and a 23 km interlink cable. The offshore work will be carried out in 2017 by new cable installation vessel Maersk Connector which joins the DeepOcean fleet early 2016.
Ottar Maeland, EVP Greater North Sea for DeepOcean, said “We are delighted to be expanding our relationship with Dong Energy from the offshore oil and gas market to the key growth area of offshore wind. This is a major contract using our state of the art new cable installation vessel Maersk Connector and the versatile installation and trenching vessel Havila Phoenix.”
The Walney Extension Project is located in the Irish Sea west-south-west of the Isle of Walney coast in Cumbria.
Earlier this week the subsea specialist was awarded a contract for the provision of post-lay trenching and survey works in Australia.
