Conti in for Hantong product trio

China’s Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry has won an order to build three 74,000 dwt LR1 tankers with Conti of Germany.

The product tankers will deliver from December 2017 and are designed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI). While no price was revealed, it is thought Conti is paying just over $40m per ship. For Conti, the size of these new ships is something new – its current product tanker mix being made up of aframaxes and handysizes.

As well as tankers, diverse Conti, which turned 45 this year, has many boxships and bulkers in its fleet.
