Prosafe may defer delivery of new accommodation vessel

Prosafe and Singapore-based Jurong Shipyard have agreed to a flexible delivery of Prosafe’s latest accommodation vessel Safe Zephyrus, which the client said is “to align with Prosafe’s contract portfolio”.

According to Prosafe’s website, the vessel was scheduled to be “ready for North Sea operations in 2015”, but the Oslo-listed company today hinted in an exchange filing it may decide to delay delivery until 2016.

Safe Zephyrus (pictured) is due to begin a contract to Statoil at the Mariner project in the UK Continental Shelf of the North Sea from mid-April 2016. The vessel will be deployed for a short initial period and will be replaced with the Safe Notos after its delivery from the yard and its arrival into the North Sea.

Prosafe’s third-quarter 2015 financial results show that Safe Zephyrus has additional firm employment lined up throughout the second half of 2016, with an optional extension period during the first half of in 2017. The specific client was not disclosed.

Construction of the Safe Zephyrus has been completed and has stayed within budget, Prosafe said today. The $295.2m construction contract was signed with Jurong Shipyard’s parent Sembcorp Marine in November 2012.

The ship has been built with beds for 450 people in single-person cabins and has been built to the GVA 3000E design. The vessel features a DP3 (dynamic positioning) system as well as 12-point mooring arrangement, allowing it to operate in both dynamic positioning and anchored mode.
