Abu Dhabi’s AD Ports Group has inked a memorandum of understanding with the Karachi Port Trust of Pakistan that paves the way for increased efforts in the infrastructure development, expansion, and digitalisation of port projects within Pakistan.
A senior delegation from the United Arab Emirates, led by Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, managing director and Group CEO of AD Ports Group, visited Karachi and met with Faisal Sabzwari, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs of Pakistan.
The deal represents a shared vision to drive sustainable growth, promote trade diversification, and strengthen bilateral ties between the UAE and Pakistan, AD Ports said.
Al Shamisi said AD Ports will aim to transform Karachi port’s container terminal into a premier hub for transshipment as well as imported and exported cargo.
“We anticipate that this collaboration will propel Karachi Port towards becoming a global hub of global trade and reinforce its significance as a key player in the trade and maritime industries, further stimulating economic prosperity in the region,” he added.
AD Ports has been rapidly expanding its footprint, becoming one of the leading ports and shipping players. The Group earlier this year entered into a framework agreement with Angola’s Ministry of Transport to begin collaboration on the development of maritime services and infrastructure across the country, signed agreements in Egyptian and Congolese ports sectors, started growing its tanker fleet and recently established a non-vessel owning common carrier with Dubai-listed logistics company Aramex.
