Adani to set up $192m container terminal at Ennore

Chennai: The $9bn Adani Group, which owns and operates facilities at five ports – Mundra, Hazira, Dahej, Visakhapatnam and Goa – will be putting up a INR12bn ($192m) greenfield container terminal at Kamarajar port in Ennore, about 20 km north of Chennai.

The Adanis have roped in Ennarasu Karunesan, earlier the ceo and director of DP World Chennai, to head its container operations. Karunesan, who has been heading Chennai Container Terminal for the past 11 years, will be replaced by K K Krishnadas, who was ceo of DP World’s ICTT Vallarpadam terminal at Cochin.

During fiscal 2013-14, the Adani group handled 2.39m teu at its five box facilities, showing 38% improvement over the 2012-13 figure, and far higher than the 3% growth registered at the 12 state-owned major ports.
