Admin at Vietnam ports needs streamlining, says industry

Hanoi: The Vietnam Ship Agents and Brokers Association (VIBASA) and other industry parties have appealed to the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to simplify administration procedures at the country’s ports in order to boost trade with Cambodia.

VIBASA says that despite the industry's requests to review and revise administrative procedures for imports and exports to Cambodia, paperwork is still complicated and time-consuming.

In particular, VIBASA says the permit for goods in transit, currently regulated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), should be simplified to encourage companies trading between Viet Nam and Cambodia to use Vietnamese ports.

Representatives from Diem Dien Sea Transport Co have asked the MOT and the Government to work with Cambodia to set up a 24/7 operational administration office to boost maritime commercial activities between the two countries and save time and costs.

The MOT said it would respond to the industry's requests and recommendations this month. [11/10/14]
