Argentina delays transfer of Buenos Aires Port

Argentina’s national government is withholding approval for transferring control of Buenos Aires Port, according to the Buenos Aires Herald.

The country’s Transport Ministry is holding back from applying a decades-old law ordering the transfer of jurisdiction over national ports to local authorities – cities and provinces.

In the case of Buenos Aires Port that would be the City of Buenos Aires.

But the Transport Minister Guillermo Dietrich says his body will not endorse the transfer until some unresolved issues – including longstanding outstanding debts – are fixed.

The port, Argentina’s leading transshipment gateway for foreign trade, is under trusteeship of the national government.
