Armitt: Taking control of the whole bulk supply chain

The Armitt Group, a UK shipping agent and specialist logistics company, is evoving very fast. With origins in broking, it has since added agency and bunkering as strings to its bow, something Charles Gray, the managing director, describes as a “natural progression” as Armitt aims to manage the entire supply chain for customers.

“Our strategy, “ Gray says, “is to build on our high level of customer service by expanding our services to cover the entire supply chain. We will deliver this by providing strategically placed multimodal facilities across the country and expand our activities in chartering and shipbroking to gain more control over the movement of goods.”

In particular Gray says there are significant advantages in optimising the use of rail freight to ease congestion at the UK’s ports and move goods away from the nation’s congested roads.

With a strong focus on breakbulk, Gray is not worried about Brexit and thinks there’s a lot of exciting infrastructure projects coming the UK’s way soon.

“The construction industry will still be strong,” he maintains, “and this will be driven by the shortage of housing and the large scale government led projects on the horizon such as the HS2 rail plan.”
