Asian yards must chase process improvement

Singapore: Shipyards in Asia have a “big opportunity” for process improvement, a leading European software executive has told SeaShip News.

Bert Geisler, director of marine solutions at Siemens PLM Software, said, “Yards who are able to change products will survive.” Driving efficiencies wherever possible will be vital for shipyards to remain competitive in this challenging environment, he maintained.

Siemens is marketing its recently launched Shipbuilding Catalyst at the moment. The product is aimed at helping accelerate the deployment of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and further enhancing PLM value. Using a pre-packaged combination of industry-specific best practice guides, templates and tailored software, the Shipbuilding Catalyst integrates and synchronizes shipbuilding operations, including crucial members of the supplier network and third-party service providers.  [17/06/14]
