Atlantica’s tender drilling rig contract terminated by Total Congo

Oslo: Houston-headquarted Atlantica Tender Drilling has said that Total Congo has terminated a contract for its tender drilling rig BassDrill Alpha.

The cancellation will be effective later this month, when work is completed on the well the rig is currently serving.

BassDrill Alpha was mobilized to the Republic of Congo in 2010, and in February the company and Total agreed to a discounted rate for the rig to continue on a well-by-well basis up to November 27. The early termination fee amounts to 180 days at 50% of the original operational rate.

Atlantica said that it intends to warm stack BassDrill Alpha offshore The Congo, with work in the area the most likely according to the company. The rig is being actively marketing to operators in both major tender assist regions, Southeast Asia and West Africa, the company added.
