Authorities battle to contain giant oil slick

Cairo: Oil shipments to Israel are facing disruption as authorities battle to contain one of the worst oil spills in the nation's history. On Thursday a pipeline connecting the port of Ashkelon with Eilat ruptured spilling tons of oil, much of it into pristine natural park territory.

Authorities have spent the past three days trying to contain the incident with local reports suggesting just mixed success so far. There are fears that if the spill is not contained properly today it could spill into the Gulf of Eilat. [07/12/14]
