Bangladesh Shipping Corp signs for 3 tankers

State-owned Bangladesh Shipping Corporation has signed a much telegraphed deal for three 50,000 dwt tankers. Brokers put the price of each ship at $35m.

The vessels will import crude oil from Saudi Arabia and the UAE for its sister company, Bangladesh Petroleum Corp.

The long expected order is in line with the company’s plan to renew its ancient fleet of single hull tankers and multipurpose ships.

The company earlier ordered three 40,000 dwt bulkers. All ships – to be built at Jiangsu New Yangzijiang in China – are set for delivery in 2017. The line has received funding from China to proceed with the ship orders.
