Belships offloads supramax bulker via charter with purchase obligation

Norway’s Belships has agreed to sell 2006-built supramax bulker Beleast to Turkey’s Marti Shipping & Ship Management.

The vessel, which is the oldest in the Belships fleet, will initially go to the Turkish outfit on bareboat charter. The charter will commence this quarter and the charterer has an obligation to purchase the vessel within 24 months.

Belships says it will realise a gain of around $4m, and cashflow from the charter is around $3.5m. The vessel is valued at around $7.71m by VesselsValue.

Lars Christian Skarsgård, CEO of Belships, commented: “Belships sold Belobo to Marti Shipping back in 1985 so we are pleased to do business with their company again. Belships has a modern fleet with an average age of six years. We will continue to take an opportunistic approach to renew and expand our fleet, with the aim of maximising returns for our shareholders.”

Belships currently has a fleet of 22 supramax and ultramax bulkers, including newsbuildings.
