Belships signs sale and leaseback deal with Japanese company

Norwegian supramax specialist Belships has announced that it has entered into a sale and leaseback agreement with a Japanese counterpart for 61,000dwt bulk carrier Belforest.

The vessel is currently under construction at Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan and will be sold and leased back for a period of 12 years, with purchase options from year three. The vessel is scheduled for delivery towards the end of this month.

According to Belships, the transaction will improve its cash balance by about $4m once the vessel is delivered.
