Benita refloated five weeks after grounding off Mauritius

The  Benita bulk carrier has finally been refloated after grounding five weeks ago on the shores of Mauritius.

Five Oceans Salvage are now towing the ship some 20 miles offshore, where a skeleton salvage crew will remain onboard.

A decision on the most appropriate course of action will largely depend on an assessment of the vessel’s seaworthiness and general state.

The London P&I Club faces a sizeable bill for the operation plus the cleanup following the accident on June 17.
