Besiktas sells chemical tanker for $16.3m

Turkey’s Besiktas Shipping Group has offloaded one of its oldest chemical tankers, the 18,000 dwt Ice 1A classed Besiktas Scotland, built 2007, for $16.3m, according to brokers. Germany’s Carl F. Peters has been linked as the buyer.

Neither companies confirmed the sale when contacted by Splash.

Istanbul-headed Besiktas has some 15 young tankers in its fleet list, the majority being chemical tankers. It also has four capesize bulkers. The Kalkavan family is the main shareholder of the diverse group which is also involved shipmanagement, shipbuilding, repair, with businesses outside the shipping industry too.
