Big baby cape order from Russia

A month after Russian oil product supplier Amurskaya Neftebaza made headlines for ordering a 4,500 dwt tanker at China’s Dajin Heavy Industry for $7m, the company’s name has cropped up again, and this time behind a much larger order.

According to broking sources, the outfit is diversifying its interest in shipping, ordering six 120,000 dwt baby capes at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in China’s Jiangsu province. No price has been revealed for the order. Delivery of the ships is scheduled for the second half of next year.

A niche for many years, baby capes are making quite a comeback servicing new tradelanes linked to China.
