Big logistics investments in Nansha

Guangzhou: Eight projects were launched in Guangzhou Nansha New Area on Wednesday, which will greatly promote the port and logistics business of the area.

The eight projects include the South Sea Institute of Oceanography, third phase project of Guangzhou Nansha port area, first phase project of Guangzhou Nansha river-sea combined transport terminal, Guangzhou Nansha steel integrated logistics parks, and Guangzhou Wanqi cold warehouse and another three projects. The total investments of the eight projects are around RMB12bn.

Among them, the phase three project of Nansha port area includes four 100,000 tons class and two 70,000 tons class container berths, plus twenty four 2000tons class container barge berths.

Chen Hongxian, chairman of Guangzhou port said this project could meet the demands of fast growing container transport requirements in the Pearl river delta and is to adapt to the upsizing of container ships.

Currently, the handling volume of Nansha port area accounts for nearly 60% of Guangzhou port.  [27/09/12]
