BigRoll unwinds

After just four and a half years, Dutch heavylift joint venture BigRoll is set to unfurl.

Launched in 2013 as a 50:50 JV between Spliethoff’s BigLift and Rolldock Shipping with a focus on ultra large and modular cargoes, the four-ship red liveried fleet will be divided evenly between the two divorcing partners when they split on January 1. The pair will however see out ongoing contracts together.

Among BigRoll’s most significant contracts in its short lifespan has been helping develop the huge Yamal LNG project in Russia.

The partnership foundered over differing opinions over commercial strategy, insiders say.
