BIMCO’s Timlen steams to cycling fame

Singapore: In the local media over the weekend has been BIMCO’s local man on the ground, Thomas Timlen.

Timlen, the Asia liason officer for the global shipowing body, was the centre of attention thanks to his choice of attire at the final round of Saturday’s Ultimate Foldies Challenge in this year’s OCBC Cycle Singapore.

Timlen, 51, ditched lycra in favour of a business suit for the race.

“I figured it was my best chance of getting on stage since there was no way I could beat the younger guys,” he told local media.

The BIMCO man did pick up the title of Best Dressed Cyclist, which came with prizes such as a gym pass and a dining voucher.

Speaking to SeaShip News today, Timlen said: “Up against young well-trained professional cyclists in cool lycra on high-performance light-weight foldies, putting on a suit and hopping on a Brompton in Singapore’s 31c heat with 71% humidity is just my personal version of slow-steaming!”  [31/03/14]
