Boardley warns on ‘very difficult’ times ahead in latest Splash TV episode

Southampton: Shipping should brace itself for a “very difficult” 12 months thanks to a fragile global economy and overcapacity in many sectors, warns Tom Boardley, the marine director at British classification society Lloyd’s Register, in the latest Splash TV episode.

Tankers are at a peak and may come off, Boardley reckoned, while bulk carriers remain “in the depths”. Shipping cycles have become more unpredictable and the downtime for bulk carriers in particular could last for some time, Boardley said.
