Boxship collides with trawler off Xiamen, 11 feared dead

The 907 teu Hong Kong-flagged Sinotrans Xiamen, operated by Sinotrans Shipping, collided with a fishing vessel near Xiamen just after midnight today. The fishing vessel sank and the local coastguard to date has been able to rescue just three of the 14 men from the trawler. Search and rescue operations continue.

The accident happened 50 nautical miles southwest in the Taiwan Strait, an exceptionally busy waterway, teaming with fishing trawlers where accidents are unfortunately commonplace.
