Brazil launches investigation into ‘irregularities’ at Sembcorp Marine subsidiary

Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine issued a statement on Friday indicating that the Office of the Comptroller General of Brazil has published a notice in the nation’s Official Gazette saying that it has initiated a preliminary administrative liability proceeding against Sembcorp Marine’s subsidiary, Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz Ltda (EJA).

The Comptroller General plans to investigate alleged irregularities practiced by EJA.

Sembcorp said that the notice does not provide further facts and that it is “currently unable to assess the matter or impact, if any.” It noted that EJA is co-operating fully with the Brazilian authorities.

The company said it will continue to monitor developments and will make “appropriate announcements in the event of any material developments.”
