Bumi Armada names new CEO

Leon A. Harland will take office as the new CEO and executive director of Malaysia’s Bumi Armada as of May 16.

Harland is currently Heerema Marine Contractors’ executive vice-president, commercial & technology.

Prior to working for Heerema, Harland worked within engineering and project management at SBM Offshore, where he developed the company’s floating LNG business. Since then, SBM Offshore has go on to become the world’s largest operator of FPSOs.

“His wealth of experience in leading a large and reputable offshore contractor as well as having in-depth understanding of the FPSO and FLNG segments are seen as key assets to drive Bumi Armada towards growth, operational excellence and strategic partnerships with clients and stakeholders,” Bumi Armada commented in a filing today.

Chan Chee Beng stepped in as Bumi Armada’s acting CEO in January 2015 after Hassan Basma stepped down “for family reasons”. When Harland takes office, Chan will revert to his former position as a non-independent non-executive director on the company’s board.
