BW makes first foray into FSRUs

Singapore: BW Gas, part of the sprawling BW Group, has chosen Samsung Heavy Industries of Korea to build the company’s first ever liquefied natural gas floating storage regasification unit (LNG-FSRU). The vessel will be delivered in 2015, and goes alongside BW’s existing 16-strong LNG fleet. BW has been eyeing the hot FSRU market for some time and is understood to have tapped up both Hyundai and regular yard Daewoo before finally selecting Samsung. No price has been given for the vessel.

BW Group is headquartered in Bermuda with key operating offices in Oslo and Singapore, the latter being where the group’s heir apparent, Andreas Sohmen-Pao resides.   [14/01/13]
