BW poaches Norden ceo

Singapore: BW has initiated a management shuffle that could soon see a change right at the top of the group. BW has appointed Norden ceo Carsten Mortensen as its new group ceo.

Current BW Group ceo Andreas Sohmen-Pao will join the BW Group Board of Directors and remain actively involved in the group, including on the board of subsidiaries BW Offshore, BW LPG and BW Pacific, the group said in a release.

"Carsten is an outstanding leader in the maritime sector and is an ideal candidate to lead BW into the next phase of growth. We warmly welcome Carsten to the team," commented Sohmen-Pao.

With his father, Helmut Sohmen, in his mid-70s, speculation is mounting that Sohmen-Pao, long groomed for the top job, will soon be unveiled as the new chairman of the group. Helmut Sohmen took over from his father-in-law Sir Y K Pao as chairman of World-Wide Shipping in 1986. In 2003, Sohmen completed the buyout of Norway’s Bergesen, with the merged company changing name to BW. [17/06/14]
