Caledonia continues rapid fleet buildup with panamax charter

Caledonia Maritime Services has confirmed to Splash that it has taken 2005-built panamax vessel Melia on charter, expanding its fleet to five bulkers.

The Connecticut-based company, set up last year, has chartered the vessel at a reported $12,750 per day from Italy’s United Bulk Carriers, who have the vessel on charter from Diana Shipping at $12,000 per day.

The Italian outfit took the vessel from Diana earlier this month for 17-20 months, with the charter to Caledonia understood to be for 10-13 months.

Caledonia Maritime Services has also recently chartered in two supramaxes, Future Lily and Bunun Elegance, as well as two handysizes, Glenpark and Stamina SW.
